James
Nynex Arena
Friday 7 December 2001
Well, there isn't really much to say about this one. James aren't one of my favourite groups and I wouldn't even say they are in my top 50%. They have done about three good songs but these revolve around small snatches of lyrics. "If I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor" from "Sit Down" is a highly emotive reminder of very difficult personal circumstances I went through ten years ago. "She Only Comes When She's On Top" and "She’s A Star" both remind me of someone, but no names mentioned as this is a public website. It could be fairly said therefore that this concert was mainly intended as "night out" just before Christmas with Mr Gut. Left to myself I certainly wouldn't have gone as they don't fulfil any of my musical criteria, I don't even have a CD, other than on compilation albums. The playing was to an adequate standard and the acoustics good if a little on the decidedly quiet side. It was basically a greatest hits package with a few boring new ones thrown in for good measure. It was notable for being my first visit to the Nynex - quite impressed. We also found out that it was to be the lead singer's final appearance with the band, doubtless a very great emotional moment for true fans, but perhaps a reflection on my feelings about the concert and the group is that I can't even remember his name!
