Toy Story 3
Well, what can I say? I didn't think I would see the day when I would voluntarily go to the cinema to see a "children's film", but after so many heavy recommendations, I couldn't not do so!
Forget all talk about it being a "children's film" - it is just as much an adult's film and is totally enjoyable with no children around. It IS a cartoon of course, and the toy characters are bound to appeal to children, but everything equally applies to adults too. Unlike many films seen recently it has a very strong storyline and very strong, believable characters. Like all Disney films there are big moral themes, but they are not "in your face" or patronising and are all the better for it. It is very funny, uplifting and in no small measure is extremely heart rending and tearful - weep when Woody and the toys are thrown out as being of no more use - get angry when Lotsa (the evil Gordon Brown-like teddy bear) condemns them to a life of misery in the toddler's nursery - reaffirm your faith in life when Andy finally gives the toys to an appreciative friend - laugh when Lotsa gets his just desserts and is tied to the front of a truck. There are just so many fabulous moments......my personal favourite is Rex the meek and mild dinosaur who is so desperate for love and attention when he says "we're going to be played with again"......aw!!!!!
This is the best film I have seen in a very long time. It is thoroughly refreshing, enjoyable and fulfilling on all possible levels. The animation is fabulous in 3D, it is funny, morally uplifting, has great and believable characters and a first class story. I like it so much that I now want to see the first two films and to get the whole lot on DVD - I can't possibly recommend it higher than that!!
