Salmon Fishing In The Yemen
My first reaction was: "that's impossible". My second reaction was - how could it possibly be a romantic comedy?
It isn’t an earth shatterer by any means, and a harsh critic would say that it
is only pale imitation of something like “Love Actually”, but for me, it was
a gentle and entertaining “romcom” with strong and believable, down to earth
characters and a nice environmental story about a slightly cooky Arabian
sheikh who wants to do something ever so slightly impossible –yes, introduce
salmon fishing into the inhospitable desert environment of the Yemen.
It has a happy ending after a bit of heartbreak, and there is a bit of gentle
politics too – a bit sized portion of Dave Cameron’s corny but well meaning
“Big Society”, all put across in a much better way than Comedy Dave could
ever dream of doing.
Sure, it keeps things simple and goes out of its way not to offend anyone, but
hey, it’s good clean fun and does a good job of showing life in a drab civil
service office and how it can be better.
Don’t believe what the paper says –go and see it, it’s good, clean, gentle fun.
