The dreadfully funereal mournful toiling bells - "I'm a rolling thunder and driving rain" - the words and the driving funereal riff summon up a vista of hopelessness and depression . It's like walking into the GULAG for a twenty five year sentence of hard labour.

But - there is an overwhelming sense that salavation is at hand - this cannot go on for ever! Escape is at hand..... surely!
