Cricket Results 2003:
Please note: There will be no results page for season 2004 onwards as there will be adequate coverage in my blog:
May 31, June 1, 2,3 (Fri - Mon) Championship Div 1 @ Canterbury: Lancs beat Kent by 75 runs - seen by JB. Fabulous holiday with glorious weather, in company. Shame to have to miss fourth day due to inflexible arrangements. Terrible long drive! First "new ground" of season - and for some years!.
June 4 -6 (Weds - Sat) Championship Div 1 @ Liverpool: Lancs beat Leics by 10 wickets - Brilliant holiday, good weather for except one afternoon. After Canterbury, driving didn't seem so onerous!
June 7 (Sun) NCL Div 2: @ OT: Lancs beat Notts by 7 wickets - seen by JB
June 10 (Weds) C&G Trophy, Quarter final @ OT: Lancs beat Middlesex by 57 runs - seen by JB. Much drinking with Mr Gut, "Warsteiner Designated", Mr Jones also present.
June 15 (Sun) NCL Div 2: @ Derby: Lancs beat Derbyshire by 5 runs
June 22 (Sun) NCL Div 2: @ OT: Lancs beat Durham by 3 wickets -seen by JB
July 2,3.4,5 (Weds - Sat) Championship Div 1 @ Chelmsford: Lancs drew with Essex. Shameful late declaration by Hegg considerably lessens Championship chances.
July 6 (Sun) NCL Div 2: @ Lord's: Lancs beat Middlesex by 5 wickets
July 9 (Weds) NCL Div 2@ Edinburgh: Lancs beat Scotland by 10 wickets
July 15 -19 (Tues - Thurs) Championship Div 1 @ Blackpool: Lancs drew with Kent - seen by JB. First day with Mr Gut, second day with Messrs Gut and Pearce. Excellent four day holiday, great weather, (one poor afternoon) with free accommodation! Tense "slugging it out for a draw" on last afternoon.
July 23 26 (Weds - Sat) Championship Div 1 @ OT: Lancs drew with Warwicks. First day visiting, saw mid afternoon onwards, second day missed due to "team building", third day rained off, bore draw on fourth day but hard core drinking with Gutmeister.
July 28 (Mon) NCL Div 2 @ OT: No result v Somerset. JB was there, travesty due to bad weather.
July 30 - August 2 (Weds - Sat) Championship Div 1 @ Leicester: Lancs beat Leicester by 7 wickets.
August 3 (Sun) NCL Div 2 @ Cleethorpes: Lancs beat Notts by 25 runs. Cleethorpes is nowhere near Nottinghamshire.
August 4 (Mon) NCL Div 2 @ OT: Lancs beat Derbyshire by 8 wickets. Brilliant night for floodlit cricket, in middle of heatwave. Geoff there with son Gavin - his first cricket match, lucky sod!
August 9 (Sat) C&G Semi Final at Worcester. Lancs lost to Worcester by 6 runs. Tragic result in last over. Horrendous decision to field on flat batting pitch v Graeme Hick. Hottest day ever experienced at cricket - 43 degrees centigrade in sun. Excellent holiday
August 13 (Weds) NCL Div 2 @ Hove. Lancs beat Sussex by 7 wickets. Should have made effort to get there.
August 14 17 (Thurs - Sun) Championship Div 1 @ Hove. Lancs lost to Sussex by 252 runs. Incredibly, first Championship defeat of season, but ends Championship hopes. Dead draw until sudden Lancs collapse on last day. Mostly brilliant weather. Stayed with Donald Aristotle McCririck. MEG attended on Sat. Holiday totally ruined by car breaking down.
August 19 (Tues) NCL Div 2 @OT. Lancs beat Middlesex by 7 wickets. JB there, Very high scoring, getting back at after midnight due to no car seemed very surreal.
August 21 - 24 (Thurs - Sat) Championship Div 1 @ OT. Lancs drew with Middlesex. Saw only first two days. Lancs scored 734 -5 dec, highest ever score at OT - so bored that glad not to see last two days! Have seen two higher scores - at Oval, 1990 - equally boring match!
August 26 -29 (Tues - Fri) Championship Div 1 @ OT. Lancs beat Surrey by 8 wickets. Should have been Championship decider. Second and third days missed, picking car up from Littlehampton. Therefore missed surrey collapse on third day. Slight compensation was nice pre lunch session on the Friday..
September 1 (Mon) NCL Div 2 @Taunton. Lancs beat Somerset by 24 runs. Was on Sky but I almost completely forgot - only caught half of Somerset's innings
September 3 -6 (Weds -Sat) Championship Div 1 @ Edgbaston . Lancs beat Warwickshire by an innings and 45 runs. Noteworthy for score of 782. Shame I missed it. Championship hopes still alive.
September 7 (Sunday) NCL Div 2 @ Southampton Lancs beat Hampshire by 45 runs. To my shame completely forgot about it. Won us promotion.
September 10 - 13 (Weds - Sat) Championship Div 1 @ OT. Lancs beat Sussex by an innings and 19 runs. Keeps faint Championship hopes alive. Unbelievable great weather for last two and a half days. On leave for it all. Mark and Geoff on the Friday, much drinking
September 14 (Sunday) NCL Div 2 @ OT. Lancs lost to Sussex by 9 wickets. Most amazing display of inept batting ever seen from Lancs. Ironically in front of best house of season in glorious weather,. Would have won us Div 2 title. Car broken into but no damage done. Excellent female company... My last match of the season!
September 17- 20 (Weds - Sat) Championship Div 1 @ Trent Bridge: Lancs lost to Notts by 233 runs. Obviously gave up after Sussex got the bonus points they needed.
September 21NCL Div 2 @ Northampton. Lancs beat Northants by 9 wickets. Making up for last week's aberration, won second division title. Watched "delayed" coverage on video, combing it with going to MUFC v Arse.
And so ends the season. No Championship, no C&G and no Twenty20, and can hardly call NCL Division 2 a "trophy". Still, best season in my living memory, made so by best weather since 1976, but also because other circumstances actually allowed me to enjoy it!!
