Football Results 2003 -4
Please note: There will be no results page for season 2004-5 onwards as there will be adequate coverage in my blog:
Sunday 11 August 2003
MUFC 1, Arse 1, MUFC won on penalties.
At Millennium stadium. Watched second half on Sky at home, after getting back from Worcester. Nice to see Campbell sent off again, and although "result doesn't matter", nice to get psychological edge over Arse.
Saturday 17 August:
MUFC 4, Bolton 0.
Couldn't go as on holiday in Littlehampton - cricket much more important at this time of year!. Ticket with A Urquhart. Convincing win to lay bogey. Debut of new Ronaldo. Boothy to take some stick.
Saturday 24 August
Newcastle 1, MUFC 2.
Watched on Sky at home. Convincing win, Hammy to be ribbed. Notable for Ferguson being sent off - referee missed obvious free kick and sending off against us - Newcastle soon 1-0 up but to no avail.
Wednesday 27 August
MUFC 1, Wolves 0.
Couldn't go - ticket with A Urquhart again - Watched "live" on Sky a day late - picking car up from Littlehampton. A little disappointing perhaps, a landslide had been predicted. Shouldn't be greedy!
Sunday 31 August.
Southampton 1, MUFC 0.
Very poor. On Sky but won't use Pay Per View on principle. Due to wedding reception even missed out on an afternoon at Snooker Club - perhaps just as well!!
Saturday 13 September
Charlton 0, MUFC 2
Not a return to form. Saw highlights only
Tuesday 16 September (ECL)
MUFC 5, Panathanaikos 0
Again not a return to form. opposition piss poor. Live on TV - only go to top flight European games of course.
Sunday 21 September
MUFC 0, Arse 0.
Amazingly my first match of the season. With A Urquhart as Jones on holiday. Nistelrooy missed penalty in last minute but overall very poor match, didn't deserve to win. Everything overshadowed by fracas in last ten minutes. Will hear much more of this.
Saturday 27 September
Leicester 1, MUFC 4.
Could this be a return to form? Van Nistelrooy hat trick. Goals seen much later.
Wednesday 1 October (ECL)
Stuttgart 2, MUFC 1.
Very disappointing display, hit by two goals in two minutes after dreadful dull first half. We could be struggling in Europe now. On Sky TV, glad didn't go to Snooker Club.
Saturday 4 October
MUFC 3, Birmingham 0.
First match of the season sat with Jonesy. Very hungover, tried to sell the ticket to B Horton. match ruined by needless sending off leading to penalty - at least Van Nistelrooy seems to have scoring boots back on and win doesn't go amiss.
Saturday 18 October
Leeds 0, MUFC 1.
Only saw the goal, a bit of a struggle apparently, but even if near the end it is another nail in the coffin for the sheep. Hah ha.
Wednesday 22 October (ECL)
Rangers 0, MUFC 1.
An excellent night for business entertaining with Jonesy paying me his first visit since the 1996 FA Cup Final for the Battle of Britain on Sky. Phil Neville scored after five minutes, much easier than the result makes it look.
Saturday 25 October
MUFC 1, Fulham 3.
An astonishing game, MUFC didn't turn up, Fulham played out of their skins and humiliated us. Better team won. To add insult to injury got drenched on walk back to car!
Tuesday 28 October. (League Cup)
Leeds 2, MUFC 3.
Made amends for Saturday. Reserve team out but still beat the Sheep. Thrilling match on Sky.
Saturday 1 November.
MUFC 3, Portsmouth 0.
Normal service resumed at home but didn't go as I was taking delivery of, and setting up two bookcases. Very mixed blessings as they are cheap rubbish - at least A Urquhart enjoyed the match.
Tuesday 4 November. (ECL)
MUFC 3, Rangers 0.
Resounding win in Battle of Britain round two. Rangers would make only very moderate Premiership side. Made exception to "No European Matches" rule. Very nice curry at Jonesy's but punishing march to ground.
Sunday 9 November.
Liverpool 1, MUFC 2.
Perfect birthday present, watched at home on Sky, but a miracle that Scousers couldn't equalise- Heskey emphasises Donkey reputation.
Saturday 22 November
MUFC 2, Blackyburn 1.
An anticlimax coming straight after England won the Rugby World Cup. Lucky to get away with it after a lax second half performance.
Wednesday 26 November(ECL)
Panathanaikos 0, MUFC 1.
A pretty meaningless match although I had the luxury of being able to watch at home on Sky TV.
Sunday 30 November
Chelsea 1, MUFC 0.
Does this signal the end of our title hopes as the press insist? I don't think so. One dodgy penalty doesn't spell the end of the world. Snooker club with Mr Jones.
Wednesday 3 December (League Cup)
West Bromwich 2, MUFC 0.
As above - a pretty meaningless match although I had the luxury of being able to watch at home on Sky TV. A spirited performance by the reserve team.
Saturday 6 December
MUFC 4, Aston Villa 0
A misleading scoreline. At 2-0 it was a flattering score, I was bored to death, left early and missed two goals. One to forget.
Tuesday 9 December.(ECL)
MUFC 2, Stuttgart 0.
Watched highlights as soon as getting home from the hugely enjoyable Iron Maiden concert (click to see review).
Saturday 13 December
MUFC 3, City 1.
Got them back for inflicting that embarrassing 3-1 defeat on us at my birthday last year. But still, when they got back to 2-1 they could have equalised.
Sunday 21 December
Spurs 1, MUFC 2.
A nice Sunday afternoon out at the snooker club with Mr Jones, a couple of pints and burger and chips. Should never have let them back in it though.
Friday 26 December
MUFC 3, Everton 2.
And so this is Christmas. Our defence certainly felt in the spirit of things, though not so much as to totally ruin things. Rooney played like a mad man - I hope we don't buy him.
Sunday 28 December
Middlesbrough 0, MUFC 1.
A Christmas rendezvous chez Buckley with Mr Jones and the match on Sky, but not worth the effort, very tepid. Creditworthy to hang on after Fletcher sent off for two silly yellow cards.
Sunday 4 January 2004 (FA Cup 3rd Round)
Aston Villa 1, MUFC 2.
I was otherwise engaged at Hannah's birthday party. A good comeback, reminiscent of the same tie two years ago.
Wednesday 7 January
Bolton 1, MUFC 2.
A very brave performance from the Trotters, but right eventually prevailed. As a local derby of sorts it was criminal not to be on Sky, though at least highlights were on later.
Sunday 11 January
MUFC 0, Geordies 0.
Dull, tepid, lacking in any interest. Exactly what was NOT expected from this fixture!
Saturday 17 January Wolves 1-0 MUFC
This is the match where I lost interest in the season. A gutless defeat against the bottom team was unforgivable. It's where I got fed up of keeping this log and the rest of the matches can safely pass without comment. The rest of the season was on the whole fairly traumatic - a desperate last minute knock out in the European Cup was the ultimate agony perhaps, but it was followed up with an embarrassing heavy defeat against City and a poor 1-0 defeat to the Scousers. And then the Arsewipe went through the league season undefeated to walk away with the title. The rest of the season wasn't without its compensations though, most notably the fine achievement of winning the FA Cup, which included beating the Arsewipe along the way. (06.12.04)
